DI Charts: Bar, Line, Pie

Bar Charts


Reading

  • X-axis: Categories
  • Y-axis: Values
  • Compare heights directly
  • Look for patterns: Increasing, Decreasing, Constant

Calculations

  • Absolute difference: Subtract values
  • Percentage change: Use formula
  • Ratio: Divide values

Line Graphs


Reading

  • Shows trends over time
  • Slope indicates rate of change
  • Steep slope = Rapid change
  • Flat slope = No change

Key Points

  • Maximum/Minimum points
  • Intersection points (if multiple lines)
  • Inflection points (trend changes)

Pie Charts


Reading

  • Total = 360° or 100%
  • Each sector = Part of whole
  • Compare sector sizes

Calculations

  • Sector value = (Angle/360) × Total OR (Percentage/100) × Total
  • Compare sectors: Use angles or percentages

Trick

If total not given, assume 100 or 360 for ratio questions
